Drive from the subtropical lowlands of Phuentsholing to the capital city of Thimphu. The scenic journey passes through lush forests, cascading rivers, and winding mountain roads, gradually ascending into Bhutan’s Himalayan interior.

Spend a full day exploring Thimphu’s cultural and political landmarks, visiting monasteries, memorial chortens, museums, government buildings, and local markets. This day offers insight into Bhutan’s unique blend of tradition, governance, and modern life.

Depart Thimphu and drive over the picturesque Dochula Pass, known for its panoramic Himalayan views and 108 chortens. Descend into the Punakha Valley and explore its major heritage sites, including the historic Punakha Dzong at the confluence of two rivers.

Journey eastward into central Bhutan through valleys, forests, and mountain passes. Upon arrival in Trongsa, visit the remarkable Trongsa Dzong, strategically built on a ridge and historically the most important fortress in Bhutan.

Continue your overland journey to Bumthang, crossing high mountain passes and pristine alpine landscapes. Bumthang Valley is regarded as Bhutan’s spiritual heartland and offers a serene setting rich in religious history.
